“I had long wanted to try sensory deprivation meditation and finally had the chance to do so this past Friday. I took a few pictures (the tank picture is from their site: click here for The Flo) and I wanted to share my experience as I had a lot of my own questions before going! In the establishment I chose there were only two “float rooms.” I booked “Room 1” and paid in advance of my visit. Upon walking into the room I noticed this peaceful door hanging and concentrated on the words. I loved the calming purple that illuminated the space when I first walked in, but one is given a remote that can change the room color if desired. The rooms are private and have a float chamber as well as a large open space, a tile bench, a shower, a towel rod, and a stand with things you may need before your float – ear plugs (highly recommended), petroleum jelly for any open scrapes/cuts, and contact solution. There is only one towel, so I’d recommend bringing your own as well. There was shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in the shower stall, but this varies by venue. You are asked to rinse off in the shower before your float and it’s generally recommended that one float naked so that clothing doesn’t distract from the experience.”
